that his name is james j. lee, l-e-e. james, middle name j-a-y. and he has a history of protesting against the doiscovey channel. here's a piece of literature that he was accused of handing out outside the discovery headquarters in 2008. according to montgomery county maryland officials, he organized a protest outside the building and threw money into the air, threw thousands of dollars into the air. he was arrested, found guilty of disorderly conduct. he was given six months of supervised probation. and at the time, i don't know if it's still in effect, but at the time, there was an essence a restraining order against him. he was told that he would be juvenile jaild for up to 60 dpas he came within 500 feet of the discovery channel building. this pamphlet that he handed out basically said that the discovery channel needs to do more to do environmental coverage, to talk about the threats to the globe to talk about global warming and the dangers of overpopulation, and he included on it, his website. and so federal officials say they believe this is the person who's inside the building now.

the man behind yesterday's terrifying standoff. his name is james jay lee. he's 43 years old. he has previous addresses in hawaii, california, and washington state. but he has lived in our area for the past several years. in march of 2008, he was convicted of disorderly conduct after organizing the protest outside the discovery building. a judge gave him a six-month suspeus is spended sentence and warned him he could spend 60 days in jail if he ever again came within 500 feet of the building. lee also listed a local homeless organization as an address. news 4's tracee wilkins talked with the executive director of the emergency services center in silver spring. >> reporter: as we learn more about james lee, we're also learning about places that he once called home. one of the places that he listed as an address is shepherd's table here in silver spring. when news began reporting that the suspected gunman inside the discovery communications building was james lee, it was a name some clients here at shepherd's table remembered. in 2008, lee organized a protest outside discovery's buildi
